Woohoo! Finally!

After a not so intense struggle, Jon and I managed to construct an ultimate egg landing platform out of only newspaper and tape! It wasn't easy but the effort and commitment that was placed into this physics lab project was definitely much more less compared to the previous experiment! (Well, I did most of the work actually, Jon was complaining over the weekend that he had a bad stomach ache thanks to some fatally spicy chilly sauce.) Yikes! Anyway, thanks to lady luck for being on our side, we managed to get the highest score in the class for this naked egg drop event! (Actually all thanks to my friends who joined a semester earlier and a few eggs with seemingly tougher shells! XD)

Only being allowed to use paper (no tissue paper) and tape to construct this platform, the hardest part was how to ensure that the egg did not break during collision! For that, we just had to increase the collision time to decrease the force acting onto the egg shell! (Ft=mv-mu!! Remember? =P) Using rolled up newspaper and cutting them into miserable looking stubs and a piece of paper that looked like it came out of the trash lined with very sticky tape (So that the egg doesn't roll off/drop and crack!)! And by placing the egg along its longer side, drag force could also be increase, which will decrease the velocity and lessen the force during impact [Drag=1/2DρAv² and F=ma, where a=(v-u)/t, assuming 'a' is constant!] Er.. I think I'd better stop here.. =P

And so, with taking all of that into calculation, a platform 29x28x1.8cm platform was constructed! The egg was thrown down from a height of 2.5m during the second run which, the previous one was 2.0m. And it did not crack!! Therefore, obtaining the highest score/ratio of height of drop:height of platform in the class! Yay! I was really relieved when the egg did not crack! During the release, my heart was racing and feeling very 'gan jeong' as some other groups had manage to crack their egg effortlessly!

Not wanting just to end there, a few of us got together and decided to release the egg from a height of 3.5 storeys with combining 3 platforms including mine! And guess what! The egg didn't crack! LoL! I was utterly speechless and amazed by the platform Jon and I created as well as the others! This was the most enjoyable lab-day in Uni so far!

By the way, I seemed to have gotten myself or rather pulled
into a very sticky situation thanks to Jon's excuses, involving Jon's very-very-close 'friend'.. =P Somehow, I'm being misunderstood (In a bad way).. Which makes me feel very uneasy cause I never did anything wrong! Jon is using me as a human shield for his excuses.. *Sigh* Jon! Tell her!! =P

The miserable looking but very good egg landing platform!
